Study Group on Immigration Representation: The First Decade

The importance of quality representation is especially acute for immigrants, not only because they stand to lose what Justice Louis Brandeis described as “all that makes life worth living,” but also because there is a wide disparity in the success rate of those who have lawyers and those who proceed without counsel. For example, several studies have shown that asylum seekers are much more likely to be granted asylum when they are represented in mmigration proceedings.
