Average detainee waits more than 1100 days before their immigration hearing in Portland
By Simon Gutierrez

More than 100 U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees being held in a federal prison in Sheridan could end up waiting years to learn if they'll be allowed to stay in the United States or if they'll be deported back to their countries of origin. According to Syracuse University's Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, which tracks federal enforcement actions, there were more than 700,000 immigration cases still awaiting a decision at the end of May. Portland currently ranks 15th in the nation in projected total wait days, with the average detainee waiting more than 1,100 days before their immigration hearing.
