Journey to citizenship a tough road for West Haven teen
By Keldy Oritz

In Hartford, there are only two immigration judges, Verrillo and Michael Straus. Verrillo, who was appointed in 2008, has presided over 247 asylum cases, and denied 114 as of June, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse, an organization at Syracuse University which follows immigration judge reports. Straus, who has been a judge since 2000, has seen 566 asylum cases and has denied 406. The site does not show why people were denied asylum.
