Mother's Day wish: Humane immigration rules

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's official policy is to focus deportation efforts on those who are a danger to America — convicted criminals, suspected terrorists and gang members. But every year, only a small number of deportees actually fit in those categories. The Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse reports that less than 14.5 percent of those hauled into immigration court in the 2012-2013 fiscal year were criminals or suspected terrorists.
