Texas Dems criticize Obama on slow judicial appointments
By Gary Martin

The legal system along the border is the most congested in the nation and continues to increase each year as drug smuggling and illegal immigration become enforcement priorities. Gary Martin writes an article about judicial vacancies and cites TRAC data about the increasing immigration backlog in Texas. The Houston-based Southern District has the second largest number of drug prosecutions nationally, second only to the San Antonio-based Western district. The increase in drug prosecutions in the Southern District jumped 53 percent from 2008, according to an analysis by the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
